From Edinburgh to Stonehaven? wurde erstellt von Joker
Hi everyone ,

I have to go abroad (to an English speaking country) on business in summer and therefore I decided to go to [b:28mkr7tr]Scotland/Edinburgh[/b:28mkr7tr].

Since my favourite place of Scotland is [b:28mkr7tr]Stonehaven/Dunnottar Castle[/b:28mkr7tr] [img:28mkr7tr]http://www.smileyarchiv.net/smiley/liebe0013.gif[/img:28mkr7tr], I would like to make a trip from Edinburgh to Stonehaven in my spare freetime.

Does anyone of you know if this is possible at all? I won't have a car. Do you know if a train or bus goes to Stonehaven and if so how long will this drive take?[img:28mkr7tr]http://www.smileyarchiv.net/smiley/durcheinander-erstaunt0048.gif[/img:28mkr7tr]

Many thanks,
Joker

Of course it's possible to go to Stonehaven by public transport. For trains check www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/index.php There are probably some buses as well but can't think of any just now, maybe you can check Citylink. At least you can go to Aberdeen, there must be some local buses from Aberdeen to Stonehaven.

But why don't you rent a car for a day or two. The scenic coastal route via Arbroath is lovely and you can stop whenever you fancy to do so.

Hello Alba ,

many thanks for your answer .
I'll be there because of further education, which I have to pay on my own. I will have to pay the flight, the course as well as accommodation and I will have to stay there for five weeks.
I presume pulic transport to [img:1n7ofant]http://www.smileyarchiv.net/smiley/liebe0013.gif[/img:1n7ofant] will be cheaper.
Another reason is, that I am not used to driving on the left side.
I have never been to Edinburgh and Stonehaven. and
when I saw the map of Scotland, I thought it might be possible to make a trip from Edinburgh to Stoneheaven within a day. Though, I don't really know.

Kind regards,

Joker[/color:1n7ofant]

But, you see, public transport isn't THAT cheap either. Can't give you any figures here though, don't tell you on the link I posted earlier (on the old website they showed prices as well ).
Arnold Clark Car Rentals have prices from as cheap as £ 23 per (e.g. Nissan Micra), sometimes even £ 19 per day as special offer. So that's not too bad and definitely worth taking it into consideration. Worried about driving on the left-hand side? Other people were slightly scared too ... and managed perfectly well, so can you!
But either way Stonehaven is only a 'day-trip-away' from Edinburgh (although it might mean that you'll have to get up early to catch the first train/bus to have as much time as possible in Stonehaven)

Cheerio,
Elke

Hi again ,

I have been told that public transport is cheaper. I have never rent a car, so I don't really know about the expenses.
And to be quite honest, I don't have the driving licence that long. Surely, I would like to sit in a car and enjoy the scenery.[img:1evve1aj]http://www.smileyarchiv.net/smiley/liebe0013.gif[/img:1evve1aj]
When we were in Glasgow, we got tickets to Balloch (to and fro) which were good value.
Another thing is, that I won't have that much time. The course seems to be very time-consuming, so I would have to rent the car for just one day.

Kind regards,

Joker

Okie dokie, just checked Citylink for Edinburgh - Aberdeen. Standard day return excl. insurance is £ 24.10, Apex day return (book at least 2 days in advance) is available for £16 excl. ins. Earliest bus leaves at 08:40, arrival time in Aberdeen would be 11:45 (yes, goes via Stonehaven *g*, change bus in Perth), latest back would be 19:15 from Aberdeen, arrival time Edinburgh 22:20 (again change bus in Perth).

Something else crossed my mind: Can't you bring your own car?
